As part of Brookings Best Training Facility, I talk to a lot of clients every week, and 1 common theme rings out with people no matter what their job, workout, or goals are. We FAIL. Let’s face it, we are human and as humans we fail at multiple things each and every week. This isn’t a doom and gloom blog but more of how to overcome our short comings. Have you ever wondered what it is that makes the difference between failure and success? It’s what the 5% of the successful population do that will make a huge impact on your life. I had the amazing opportunity of listening to Billy Beck III speak on this topic last week. For those of you who don’t know who Billy is, he is one of the fitness industry’s best trainers and a motivational speaker. Find out more about Billy here
First let’s lay out why we fail in the first place.
There are 2 reasons
1) Ineffective Plan and 2) Ineffective Mindset.
Let’s address the Ineffective plan 1st. I see this all the time because not everyone knows what to do or how to get to their goals. We don’t have a plan that is effective and/or complete, and if we don’t plan…we plan to fail. In my world of the fitness industry, some people just diet or do some running and expect their goals (typically weight or fat loss) to happen or happen overnight. But in order for goals to be achieved and become easy, 5 things need to happen.
As Brookings Best Training Facility, we focus on a complete and effective program that includes:
1) Nutrition – The foundation of all health and fitness. Eat lean and green
2) Supplementation – To fill in the gaps on what our nutrition misses (no matter how good you eat we have gaps).
3) Resistance Training – To increase metabolism, increase bone density, and “tone up.” Everyone wants to look lean and toned.
4) Cardio Training – To burn some extra calories and keep our heart healthy.
5) Coaching/Accountability – To help keep on the right path, encourage, and utilize our knowledge.
This plan above is an effective and efficient plan…granted there are details in each category that we can help you take care of and make them simple to follow.
The next reason we fail is much harder for most people. Ineffective Mindset is something everyone suffers from at one point or another. Successful people can overcome this much quicker and easier then non-successful people. But they don’t have a magic secret…it’s very simple concepts.
In order to break out of our bad habits and overcome obstacles, typically 2 things have to happen:
You need to be crazy inspired/motivated or you must be desperate. Think about the last time you overcame something very challenging….you were either crazy motivated or you were desperate. Typically, the average person won’t make a change until desperation kicks in. This is just human nature. Think of the success stories you hear of people that are on the brink of bankruptcy that make it big by overcoming all odds. Or when someone is told they will die or has a serious health problem, if they don’t change their habits, typically that desperation overcomes their bad habits, and they gain their health back.
I will talk more about how we can make small changes on the next blog so I don’t overwhelm you in this blog. But I want to leave you with these few thoughts. What is it you want to achieve…your goal(s)? They could be work, financial, family, or health related. Write them down and put them in front of you everyday! Focus on them to become inspired. Also, tell them to someone and have them hold you accountable. We have clients tell us their goals, and we help hold them accountable also.
Be sure to check out the next blog in a week or so.
